Boracay Island in the Philippines was completely closed to tourists for 6 months period from April 26 – October 26, 2018. The government has taken the drastic decision to close the island for the rehabilitation of the island. After the rehabilitation, entries, and accommodations are limited. Today only 19,000 tourists may stay on the island. The number of hotel rooms for tourists will be reduced to 6,000-9000 from 12,000 rooms.
How To Get To Boracay
You can choose to travel to Boracay via either Caticlan Airport which is otherwise known as Boracay Airport or Kalibo Airport.
Getting from Caticlan Airport to Boracay will take about a 10-minute drive only going to the Jetty Port, the crossing area to take a boat going to the Boracay island while getting from Kalibo Airport will take you around 1.5 hours to the Jetty Port.
At the Caticlan Jetty Port
Tourist may be required to present hotel reservations slips before entering the island.
This is not good for backpackers who just plan to stroll around the island, look for a hotel or place to stay in for the last minute or plan to walk-in booking is not possible, they will not let you get to the Island if you do not have a confirmed booking from the hotel or a guest house.
From the Jetty Port, it will take about 15 minutes boat ride to Cagban Port at the Boracay island. Some hotel includes private transportation to and from the island.
Regulations on Beach Activities
1. No smoking and drinking alcoholic beverages along the White Beach.
2. “Laboracay” or the Annual Labor Day Party will be banned.
3. Diving in waters surrounding Boracay will be temporarily prohibited.
4. All water activities will be temporarily suspended.
5. Dining by the beach will be prohibited.
6. Fireworks displays will be allowed only until 9 p.m.
7. No installation of electric lights on the beachfront.
8. Sandcastle making will be regulated.
